SC HER CAMPUS - IN HER SHOES 2018

Last week, I attended HerCampus South Carolina's Event, In Her Shoes, as a guest blogger. This event was student-led and featured over a dozen women making a difference in public relations and media fields. This event was a fantastic view of how different women view success and came about their careers. I thought I would share with you today a reflection of the main ideas I took away from the speakers and the outfit I wore to the event!

Don't let perfectionism take the lead in your life.
It is so difficult to allow the idea of being perfect simply consume you and all that you do. It is okay to mess up and not be "perfect"! I find myself not being able to settle for anything less than perfect in so many aspects of my life, especially school and more recently, my blog. Instead of focusing on the term perfect and such a specific mindset, I am going to work on making myself proud and happy.
Listen more than you talk.
The women speaking could not stress this enough! I actually hear this advice so often, but maybe now I will actually listen to it. I am definitely a talker, there is no doubt about that. However, it is so true, especially when diving into a field where you are not the expert, that listening should be your top priority. You have everything to learn from others, so constantly ask questions too. So, as you conquer a summer internship, remember to listen as much as you can!
Your brand is a reflection of you.
When building any sort of brand for yourself, you are putting yourself completely out there, and it should accurately showcase who you are. Even if you do not think you have a personal brand, you do! One of the speakers spoke about simply seeing something in a store and thinking of how much your one specific friend would like it, captures their brand. With this, your brand should be growing with you. I have noticed that even in the past year or so of having my blog, my personal brand has changed, and I know in a year from now it will change again.
You are your biggest supporter.
Oh, the ACCURACY. You will always have yourself. You will always be your own number one fan, at least you should be. In the end, all you have is yourself. Self-care is so important! Wear what makes you feel good, take care of your body, spend more time doing what you love, and you will see success trickling out of you. You do not need to rely on anyone else to pat you on the back.
